ecutalk consult interface
-------------------------
1) plug one end into car's consult port. often this is located near fuse box area, sometimes attached to it, sometimes "floating" around
2) plug other end into laptop serial port (or into usb/serial converter)
3) ensure car is at least IGN ON (most cars dont have to be running, just on "reds")
4) start software, select port (COM1 for nearly all onboard serial ports...see bottom of this page to find usb/serial converter COM port), and bob's your uncle!
----------------
ecutalk software
----------------
1) if you dont have .NET 1.1 installed, run dotnetfx.exe (then follow step 2)
2) if you dont have .NET 1.1 SP1 installed, run NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe
3) place the ECUTalk_v1.3.2.exe anywhere you want (it's a standalone .exe, no setup required) and run it. Select port to connect. Logs are created wherever you run from.
-----------------------------------
other software - tecu and calumsult
-----------------------------------
tecu
1) unzip tecu.zip somewhere
2) run setup.exe
3) copy the tecu253.exe to the program directory and use it to run tecu (that version includes active tests)
4) optionally, copy the other .exe's (tecu252.exe and tecudvs.exe) but I forget what they do or if they're worth using
calumsult
1) unzip calumsult_full.zip somewhere
2) run setup.exe
3) copy CalumSult.exe (overwrite existing), CalumSult_old.exe into install dir. These are the newest version (which adds more features, but rom dumping may not work as well as old version), and the old version (_old), respectively.
4) calumsult.exe is newest version, run it for any non-ROM dump features
5) calumsult_old.exe is used for rom dumping - the normal exe has minor bugs with rom dumping

ftdi usb/serial converter quick install
---------------------------------------
Drivers for the usb/serial converter are located in the USBSerial folder on the CD. If you downloaded them, then just extract somewhere.
In that folder, there are two installation guides, one for Windows XP, and one for Windows CE. If not, download from links up top.
For other installation guides, refer to http://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/InstallGuides.htm
Installation steps (summary of installation guide):
1) If you have previous FTDI drivers installed, uninstall these
2) Connect USBSerial converter to USB port
3) Select "No, not this time" to the windows update drivers prompt
4) Select "Install from a specific location"
5) Select "Search for the best driver" and "Include this location", and point it to the USBSerial folder on the CD provided.
6) Click "Continue Anyway" to any prompts (if any)
7) Finish. Now to find out the COM port it uses:
Right click My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager->Expand "Ports (COM & LPT)"
You will see a "USB Serial Port (COMX)" where COMX is your COM port you will use in any consult applications.
Important: TECU is assy with any COM port other than COM1 and sometimes COM2.
To have any chance of it working with USB/Serial, you need to force COM port to COM1 or COM2 (whichever isnt in use):
1) Find "USB Serial Port (COMX)" in device manager (see above to find this)
2) Right Click, Properties -> Port settings -> Advanced -> Change port number on dropdown.
3) It will say its in use, but if u know it isnt (ie u dont have modem or bluetooth or anything there) then just confirm/continue/ok etc.
4) Open TECU, on main startup screen it where it says "Com Port:1" in bottom left corner - double click this to change to COM2 if you set converter to COM2.
5) If step 4 doesnt work, close TECU, then goto TECU folder (eg C:\Program Files\TECU or wherever) and edit com.dat and put 2 on first line rather than 1. Then open TECU and retry
